Well Design Toolkit©
The Well Design
Toolkit© (WDT) is an application
(.EXE) program containing over 30 Microsoft Excel® worksheets and forms with
supporting charts and tables to help
you design a water well or simply carry out specific design
calculations. There is a choice of metric
or US units and different currencies ($,
€ or £).

and a units converter and design summary worksheets are also incorporated.
Contents overview:
The current
version of the Well Design Toolkit (v1.2.2) contains the following:
Data entry forms
■ Background design information
(site, area, layer/aquifer type, pumping rate and
pumping test results, water
chemistry).
■ Bill of
Quantities (over 60 items to
estimate well construction costs).
Data analysis
and data plots
■
Grain size data analysis and
plots of
multiple samples for screen and pack design
(percentage passing or retained
data
tables and plots; percentiles;
effective size; uniformity
co-efficient; and pack-aquifer
ratios).
■
Casing materials (weight,
collapse and yield strength of mild steel and stainless steel casing; weight and collapse
strength of PVC casing).
■
Steel screen
materials (collapse and yield
strength of continuous slot,
shutter and
slotted mild steel and stainless
steel screen).
■
Screen open area,
entrance velocity, transmitting
capacity, length
and diameter.
■
Approach
velocity, Reynolds Number,
Up-hole velocity.
■
Well capital, loan
and operating costs ($,
€ or £ per unit volume and time).
■
Operating costs ($,
€ or £)
of electric and engine-driven
pumps.
■
Ryznar Stability Index
(with supporting
charts of S and C functions) to
assess corrosion or encrustation
potential.
■
Recharge
(injection) rate and positive
head for recharge wells.
■
Volume and annular
volumes for estimating pack or
grout volumes.
■ Air-lift pumping development (minimum
pressure requirements with
supporting submergence charts
and
pipe sizes table).
■
Pump horsepower
(water, brake and input
plus pressure to head converter)
Units:
The WDT has a choice of
consistent
metric (SI) or US units and major currencies ($,
€ or £) and includes a converter
from metric to US units and from US to metric units for the more commonly
used hydrogeological and well design parameters.
